Sauteed grape and goat cheese dip, from Cheap Recipe Blog

Everyone needs a go-to party appetizer recipe that can be prepared at the very last minute. This is mine.

A couple of years ago, I attended a cookbook signing event hosted by Michael Natkin, author of Herbivoracious. He made a dip similar to this, and it had a room full of bloggers and food writers raving. I left inspired, wanting to recreate this dish with a cheap recipe twist. I made a few tweaks and came up with a less expensive but still delicious dip that I have made for many parties since then.

The best part? It literally takes just a minute or two to throw together.

When To Serve This Dip

This is a crowd-pleaser of a dip that is appropriate for any type of party:

The Cost

  • Goat cheese (two four-ounce packages purchased at ALDI) = $3.98
  • Grapes (approximately one cup) = $.99
  • Green onion (1 stalk) = $.15

Total cost for dip = $5.12

Homemade cheese and homemade crackers

Serve with a batch of homemade crackers (on left), which costs just 50 cents to make

Sauteed Grape and Goat Cheese Dip

Yield: 8 servings

Prep Time: Less than 5 min

Ingredients:

8 ounces goat cheese
1 cup red seedless grapes, cut in half
1 green onion, chopped
Sea salt
Olive oil

Directions:

Spread goat cheese on the bottom of a small serving dish. Right before serving, saute halved grapes in one tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat for about 30 seconds. Pour grapes and any remaining olive oil from the pan over the goat cheese. Top with green onions. Drizzle with a bit more olive oil and a pinch of sea salt. Serve immediately.
